Brownell Land Company is a multi-generational business. The Brownell family started 150 years ago in the field of forestry. Now, we focus our efforts in leasing our land for oil and gas exploration, residential housing, and campsites. We take pride in conserving and protecting the natural resources of our land.
Charles Richard Brownell’s earliest known purchase of land was in the mid-1800s. Since then, our company has grown and now does business in seven parishes in south Louisiana.
Over the years, we have also been known for our philanthropic endeavors. We are proud to have gifted the Brownell Memorial Park to Morgan City, LA, the home of the Bell Tower with its rare set of 161 bronze carillon bells. This beautiful and unique park located north of the city on the picturesque Lake Palourde offers the public a tranquil refuge surrounded by cypress trees and foot trails through the swamp. The late Claire Brownell and Dr. Russell Brownell, a former mayor of Morgan City, founded the park 50 years ago. In the early days, the Brownell family once owned and operated People’s Ice Plant on the Atchafalaya river providing ice for shrimp boats.
